How To Lift Heavy Objects by Bracing Your Core Muscles
Learn how to unleash your internal super power, and protect your lower back in the process.
Knowing how to brace your core muscles is one of the most critical things everybody should know when lifting heavy objects.
Today as I was walking, I saw a woman attempting to lift a heavy mattress, packaged inside a cardboard box, up some stairs to her second-story apartment.
Watching her struggle to lift the 100lb mattress awkwardly, I immediately went into full trainer mode.
I ran over and asked her if she needed help, be she insisted on doing it on her own.
Being the protective trainer I am, I wanted to stay to ensure she wouldn’t hurt herself.
So, I asked if she’s worked out before, she said “yes.”
Then, I asked if she had deadlifted before, she said “yes.”
Next, I asked if she knew how to “brace” her core muscles, she finally said, “no.”
That’s when I started teaching her how to brace her core muscles so she wouldn’t get injured lifting the mattress up to her apartment.
Why is “abdominal bracing” important?
