The passing of knowledge from one person to another has been around since the dawn of time. From teachers to students. Elders to youngins. Parents to a child. Coach to athletes. It doesn’t matter how old or young we are. Where you come from. What’s your educational background. Or, what’s your socioeconomic status. It’s one of the most effective ways to improve our quality of life. Increases our value in society, can help prolong a career or even kick start a new business. Anyone can learn something new, and it doesn’t matter how old you are. As long as you’re willing to learn.

“There is no wealth like knowledge, and no poverty like ignorance.”

And on this day, I learned something new from a former Division-1 collegiate basketball player, now well into his 60’s, named Tony.

As he approached me during my weekly shoot around, he said, “You got a great touch kid, I watched you from across the street as you made 7 shots in a row, but you still have some things to work on”. I had no idea he was watching me. I guess he had seen enough to want to walk over and introduce himself to me and teach me about the game he loves. And I was willing to listen. So, I kept my mouth shut and listened to Tony carefully as he started to school me on the art of “shooting a basketball 101”.
