Lately, I’ve noticed people wearing the wrong shoes when lifting.

So, it got me thinking. What are the best shoes to wear when working out?

Well, it depends on the type of workout you’re doing.

So, here are the top 5 types of training shoes I recommend wearing for your workouts.

Strength training

I see people wearing Chuck Taylors at the gym when lifting weights.

I wore a pair of all-black chucks training for competitions during my powerlifting days.

But why?

The rubber flat-based sole help keeps your feet stable on the ground, which makes them perfect for deadlifting.

Also, the canvas high tops help act as a brace around your ankles, providing more stability which helps when squatting.

The more stable your feet are, the better your foundation for strength training.

Around $60 for a pair of “Chucks” helps keep your training budget low.

If you want to upgrade your training shoe game to the next level, get yourself a pair of weightlifting shoes.

I’ve owned 5 pairs of weightlifting shoes. Nike Romaleos (2, 3 & 4), Adidas Adipower, and VS weightlifting shoes.

They provide a solid elevated heal to help you maintain an upright posture when performing squats, overhead press, cleans and snatches.

Weightlifting shoes tend to run tight around the toe box, which is not ideal if you have a wide feed like me.

So, aim to go up at least a half size depending on the brand of a weightlifting shoe.
